A plane window, metaphorically talking about journey

My Journey of INPowerment

Embracing a New Life with Strength and Courage

On a cold, wet February day in 2004, I left the UK behind. As the plane took off from Heathrow Airport, rain streamed across the window, mirroring the tears on my cheeks. I was leaving everything I knew: my husband, my friends, my family, my home, my career—all the parts of my life that had made me who I was at that point. With a suitcase and a few personal mementos, I was flying into a future as unclear as the rainy sky I left behind, landing in Perth to an unfamiliar world that would challenge me in ways I hadn’t yet begun to understand.

In those first months, I struggled deeply. The profound impact of losing my familiar life was something I hadn’t anticipated. I felt bereft, trying to build a new existence while feeling as though everything I knew had slipped away. I felt like the carpet had been pulled from beneath me, from beneath my entire existence. After a year of feeling this heaviness, it all caught up with me. I reached a point where I simply couldn’t keep going. One night I came home from work and went to bed and stayed there for two weeks, numb and disconnected. I felt hopeless and helpless, a shadow of myself, barely noticing the time, as day turned to night and night into day. No-one knew I was there.

One day, I got up. There was no grand revelation, just a quiet resolve that I had to walk back into my life. Little by little, as I took one step at a time, I began to recognise something growing inside me: INPowerment. I was no longer looking for someone to pull me up or waiting for life to give me direction. Instead, I found a strength within that allowed me to accept my new reality, embrace the challenges, and face the unknown with courage.

Gradually, I let go of the past, allowing myself to see this new life as a blank canvas rather than a place of loss. Each struggle, every moment of doubt, became a step toward a stronger, more resilient version of myself. With time, I was no longer someone who had “lost everything”; I had gained a future built on a foundation of inner strength and self-belief.

Today, my life reflects my journey of INPowerment. I’ve walked into a future that I created out of courage and resilience. I’m no longer defined by what I left behind but by the strength I found within to shape my own path. This journey taught me that while life may take unexpected turns, the power to create meaning and purpose lies within us. The setbacks that are put in our way can block our path or become part of what helps us grow.
